Why Canggu is our favourite part of Bali for families

After seven trips to Bali and three visits with kids, people are often surprised when we tell them that Canggu is our favourite place to stay.

Most family travel guides point visitors towards Nusa Dua or Sanur, and while those areas certainly have their advantages, we keep coming back to Canggu.

Here’s why

The villas are incredible

One of the biggest reasons we love Canggu is the range of family-friendly villas available.

Having your own pool, separate bedrooms, a kitchen, and space for the kids to play makes a huge difference compared to staying in a hotel room. Our eldest got sick while we were there this year and having him nap in his own room while we kept our 18 month old was SO much more manageable compared to if we were in a hotel room.

Our villa also had a range of kids’ toys so we barely had to pack any of our own – this was a huge win.

Many villas offer luxury-level experiences at a fraction of what we’d pay back home.

The food scene is hard to beat

Canggu has some of the best cafes and restaurants we’ve found anywhere in Bali.

Whether we’re chasing a great coffee, healthy breakfast, smoothie bowl, sushi, pizza, or Indonesian meal, there’s always something nearby that everyone in the family will enjoy.

Even picky eaters usually find something they’ll happily order.

A few of our favourite places in Canggu to eat:-

      • TYGR Sushi (we had two date nights here while the kiddos happily played with our Balinesse nanny).

      • Milk & Madu (has a kid’s playground out the back, facepainting, colouring in and other activities).

      • KYND Community (the best plant-based restaurant we’ve ever been to. If you love strawberry matcha, you HAVE to try this place).

      • Luigi’s pizza (the kiddos loved having a margarita pizza and hot chips here).

      • LACALINTA (Mexican and they have the tastiest margaritas).

The list goes on and on so I will leave it there!

    There’s always something to do

Beach mornings, pool afternoons, sunset walks, shopping, playgrounds, cafes, massages and family-friendly beach clubs mean we’re never short of options.

Some days we have a plan but most days we simply wander and see what we discover.

It feels relaxed while still offering so much

Despite becoming more popular over the years, Canggu still has a relaxed holiday atmosphere that suits our family.

We can spend the morning exploring and the afternoon doing absolutely nothing except enjoying our villa.

    Why we keep returning

Every family looks for something different in a holiday.

For us, Bali is about great food, beautiful villas, relaxed days, family time and a little bit of adventure. The Balinesse people are also a huge reason we keep returning. They are all so lovely and Bali always feels so safe.

And after seven trips to Bali, Canggu continues to deliver exactly that.

If you have any questions about an upcoming Bali holiday, feel free to reach out. I love giving recommendations to our community.
